Diversity Resources and Programs

The School of Humanities and Sciences works to support new generations of scholars that reflect the diversity of intellectual perspectives, life experiences, and cultures represented in society today. Students from diverse backgrounds are engaged in the Stanford community and contribute to Stanford’s excellence in scholarship.

Faculty and staff throughout the university work toward the development of programs tailored to the specific needs of students from a variety of backgrounds. Students receive guidance toward the completion of their academic goals and support for overcoming any difficulties or unusual circumstances.

Diversity Works is an excellent resource for the latest diversity-related Stanford news and research as well as an overview of our community, events, resources, and programs.

Graduate Students

  • Stanford's resources for admitted and current students include events to celebrate diversity, networking opportunities with researchers on campus and elsewhere, courses describing student resources, and information on fellowships and grants.
  • Selected admitted students and promising applicants are invited to experience campus during GRAD Diversity Day. The annual event highlights the supportive community and resources offered by Stanford to allow diverse students to thrive.
  • Incoming doctoral students in all fields may be nominated for two-year fellowships through EDGE: Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education. The program aims to recruit and retain outstanding graduate students who will contribute to the diversity of their academic fields and departments.
  • Stanford participates in AGEP: Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate, an alliance of institutions dedicated to supporting diverse students, women, and students with disabilities who are pursuing degrees in STEM.
